Since leaving full time paid work to “work differently” I have been able to put my qualifications, skills and experience of teaching adults to artistic use. I have developed a series of workshops which were successfully piloted in Autumn 2013.
My current venture is Wellbeing through art for relaxation. This is the flier for the first series of workshops – I am in the process of arranging other venues and dates. The plan is to prove a need and then seek supportive funding to widen access to the workshops.
Workshops are on these themes:
I love making original art. I also have great belief in the creativity that is
inside all people and the sense of well-being that comes from being
creative. I have long wanted to get a group of art-makers together
to help them explore and improve their work – to experiment with their
materials and try new things, share ideas and techniques, to challenge
each other to grow their style and knowledge. It is good to get
a mixture of beginners and those with more experience, and group sizes are kept small – up to 10 – to allow everyone to benefit.
Students bring their own materials – paper, drawing, colours etc, though any
additional items needed to help the theme along are provided.
The first set of workshops was held in The Woodward Room, Seasons@103 in Needham Market which was a beautiful and comfortable place to do art for a morning,
It had kitchen and toilet facilities and generously offered a 10% discount in the coffee shop to workplace participants.
Cost for these workshops was £10 per person for a 2 hour session.
I am also willing to do longer sessions, and guided drawing days. The sessions would also make interesting and hands on evenings for art clubs and groups who are arranging speakers.
I have also been instigating some Faith and Art Workshops for the Bury St Edmunds Methodist Circuit – plans for these are developing well.
